Accommodations
On-Campus Living
All Exchange students are required to live on campus. The Exchange Team will reserve
housing based on your preferences indicated in your application, though placement
is subject to availability.

Once accepted, you will receive instructions to complete the housing application, which includes an application fee and deposit that will be applied to your first month’s rent.
Move-In Details
Move-in information will be regularly updated on the housing page. Be sure to check your UMail account frequently for important updates.
- Confirm your arrival by emailing housing@utah.edu, especially for early or late check-ins.
- If arriving late (after 8 p.m.), contact Public Safety at 801-585-2677 for assistance.
What to Bring
Pack essentials for your first night, such as bedding, toiletries, and water. You
can also pre-order items through Housing’s optional services. Make sure to check the full list of items that are not allowed in on-campus housing.
Mailing Address
You will receive your mailing address after being assigned to housing. You can request
a mailbox through the Optional Services page in your Housing U application.
Meal Plans
All students can choose from various meal plans for on-campus dining. Meal plans typically begin a few days to a week before the semester starts, so plan accordingly
if you arrive early.

Public Transportation
The University of Utah partners with UTA to provide free access to various public services like buses, TRAX, and FrontRunner.
Banking in the U.S.
Consider opening a U.S. bank account to manage your finances. Here are some popular
options:

Cell Phone Plans
Getting a phone in the U.S. can be tricky, especially without a Social Security Number.
Prepaid options are available, allowing you to pay for what you use. Explore options
with AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, and Cricket.
